Are today’s businesses creative?

Management theory places lots of stress on innovation and there is no doubt that the global and regional economy could do with some help right now. But are the businesses we work in day in and day out really fostering and delivering creativity?

Obviously, for Imagination, creativity is our life blood, but it’s not something that we can take as a given. On 21 February, we’ve invited high-profile figures from some of the world’s most respected brands to give their view.

We’re running a roundtable discussion with the likes of BBC, Lloyds TSB, Cosworth, Mintel, Google, ASICS and Brainjuicer to get to grips with creativity for business benefit.

We will be looking at some tough questions. Are organisations creative or is it individuals? How do we recruit creative talent? How can mature businesses learn to create? Is there such a thing as creative management? Are we looking for creativity in the right places? Does insight help? How does creativity help us compete? Do our customers really value creativity? Is there any evidence that creativity pays better than copying?

You can see we’ve got enough questions to keep our roundtable participants busy.  However, if you’d like to ask a question to these industry figures, then let me know. I’ll put it to them all on 21 February.

Creativity isn’t a fluffy "nice to have", brought out periodically to add a veneer to the operations of a compliant, consistent business. We think it should be in a business’s bloodstream.  I’m interested to know if our round-tablers are going to agree.
