‘The Madgies’ triumph against Design Bridge
On another wet night under the Westway, it was always going to be a case of grinding out a result and, at the end of the day, The Madgies clearly wanted this one more. With the new-found discipline of Tiffin’s inspired 1 (2) 2 wingback formation, FC Imagination set off strongly and were soon ahead following another dynamic run and shot from box-to-box dynamo Cullen. With his trademark low backlift, he gave the keeper no chance in powering home from the edge of the area.
This set the tone for much of the half, and with FC Imagination on top and it only seemed a matter of time before another breakthrough came. However, against the run of play, Warwick inexplicably let in a long-range speculator and the scores were level at half time.
The second half became a tense war of attrition, with Tiffin and Hughes running themselves into the ground for our cause, while Richardson suffered a suspected broken rib (or possibly mild bruise) in a particularly vicious fifty-fifty challenge. On more than one occasion, Design Bridge appeared clean through on goal, only to be denied by Dallender’s impressive tackle.
Finally though, justice was done as a slick passing move led to a break down the left by Hughes, who squared for Bird to slot home a delicate finish and put FC Imagination into a lead they never lost.
With Futurebrand next week, The Madgies are halfway towards agency bragging rights and lie second in the table.
