Taking Pepper's Ghost into the 21st Century
Ford Motor Company 3D Theatre:
Imagination created a 360 degree walk-around 3D Theatre experience for Ford's Detroit stand, the biggest auto show in the world.
The two 3D Theatres, positioned at the entrance to the stand, highlight Ford Motor Company's latest vehicles, including the global launch of the all-new 2009 F-150 truck. Along with the F-150, the 3D Theatres showcased the 2009 Ford Flex a new crossover vehicle, the 2008 Ford Focus, and the 2008 Escape Hybrid, the most fuel efficient SUV in the world.
The content was created using 3D animation package, Lightwave, and then projected through specially designed mirrors to create a holographic 3D animation. The Theatre units, designed by Imagination, hide the projectors, the speakers, and the specially made mirrors - which all go to create the magical illusion of 3D holographic animation.
Ford Motor Company 3D Interactive:
Four 3D Interactive installations were created, giving visitors the opportunity to interact and explore all the latest features of Ford's newest vehicles - the 2009 F-150, the 2009 Flex, 2008 Focus and the 2008 Escape Hybrid.
The interactives were built into the walls of the stand, to create a 'deep video' effect. The content was created in a long format movie, played from a single computer, with one side of the content displayed on a screen at the back of the unit, and the other part of the movie played on a hidden screen in the base of the unit. The content on the base screen was then projected through a specially designed mirror behind the back screen to give huge depth to the viewing area this is then filled with rich 3D animations. Imagination designed the unit so that both the back screen and the base screen where invisible to the user creating a wow effect with razor-sharp 3D animations.
Both the 3D Theatre and the 3D Interactive where premièred at the NAIAS in Detroit on 13th January 2008.
