Taxi 07 exhibition

The 100th anniversary of the New York City taxi-cab was commemorated by an exhibition that we created for Standard Taxi at the 2007 New York International Autoshow, in conjunction with the City's Design Trust for Public Space.

This exhibit showcases ten innovative taxis created by major automobile manufacturers, designers, architects and technology firms, from The World's Fastest Taxi to The All Electric Taxi to The CNG-Fuelled Taxi.

We designed a walk through environment for the display, creating the New York City streetscape by layering abstract photographic imagery in a collage on scenic flats.

Inspired by the cabbie's street perspective, the visitor journey took people through a fuelling area, repair shop, a newsstand and bodegas - complete with hot dog vendors - reflecting how the cab contributes to New York culture.

The Design Trust for Public Space is dedicated to improving the design, utility, and understanding of New York City's parks, plazas, streets, and public buildings.

Executive Director Deborah Marton commented, ‘Imagination has the rare ability to fuse design and technology to elevate even the most iconic of subjects. In Taxi 07 we collaborated on more than an exhibition; Imagination created a New York experience that evokes the past and the future through the transformation of the yellow cab.'
